Richard HughesHead Verger

Richard is a cradle raised Macon native.  He graduated from Mount de Sales Academy as a loyal Cavalier and from Mercer University as a mighty Bear! Richard’s love of Macon was instilled from birth.  His mother was a professor of foreign language at Mercer University for 30 years.  Her love for Mercer and the lives it shaped ran deep.  His father is the namesake of the Otis Hughes Tourism Spirit award.  This award is given to a person who has contributed significantly to the Macon tourism industry and has given time, talent and skill to support Macon’s tourism growth. His parents created a firm foundation of love for his hometown of Macon.

Richard has worked and lived in Macon his entire life.  He has two adult children who were both graduates of St Joseph’s and Mount de Sales.    They are avid UGA fans and can always be found in front of a television on Saturday afternoons during the fall rooting on their beloved Dawgs!  Richard and his wife, Wendy enjoy supporting the downtown arts, including Theatre Macon and the Grand Opera House.  They are ardent fans of all the downtown restaurants.  They strive to “support local” through their patronage of local markets and shops.  Wendy and Richard both attend Christ Church Episcopal where Richard serves as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Verger, and is a member of the Worship Committee.  Previously, he taught Senior High Sunday School and led their youth group.  They are the proud parents of 4 cats and a dog.

Prior to beginning his real estate career, Richard had a long and successful career in Information Technology as a Project Manager working in both financial and healthcare industries. Richard is anxious to share his love and passion of Macon with you.  Whether you are a Maconite or new to our fair city, he would love to meet you and welcome you to your new home!
