Mr. Jonathan A. PoeDirector of Music & Liturgy

Jonathan Alan Poe is a native of Mebane, North Carolina. He began his musical training at an early age through private piano instruction with Mrs. Vivian M. Dula in Burlington. During his piano study with Mrs. Dula he received superior ratings every year in the National Federation of Music Clubs competitions. He continued his musical training with the addition of organ lessons at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with Ms. Jeannette I. Hassell. Jonathan furthered his musical training in organ with Mr. Robert Burns King.

Jonathan earned the Master of Music in Organ Performance with Dr. Jack Mitchener at the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University.. Jonathan received his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance and Sacred Music from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University where he studied organ with Dr. Joby Bell.
Jonathan has served as Organist and Choirmaster for several churches in North Carolina including the historic Grace Church (Episcopal) in Morganton. In 2012 Jonathan had the honor of serving as Organ Scholar for the Carolina Course of the Royal School of Church Music in Raleigh where, under the direction of David Briggs, he accompanied a choir of fifty choristers and adults for Choral Eucharists and Evensongs.

Jonathan has performed in North Carolina & Georgia in such venues as Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Porter Auditorium at Wesleyan College, Old Salem (NC) Visitors Center on the 1800 Tannenberg Organ, the Kenan Chapel at Landfall in Wilmington, Christ Church (Episcopal) and Saint Michael’s (Episcopal) in Raleigh.

Jonathan is a member of several professional organizations including the American Guild of Organists. He currently serves as Communications Chair for the Macon chapter. He has served as Dean of the Boone (NC) chapter, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster for five years for the Greater Greensboro (NC) chapter, and Registrar for the 2011 AGO Region IV Convention in Greensboro. Other professional organizations include the Royal School of Church Music and the Organ Historical Society.
