The Parish Choir

The Parish Choir serves as the primary choral ensemble of the parish and is comprised of 24 extremely talented volunteers as well as 8 professional singers. The Parish Choir sings for Choral Holy Eucharist (11 a.m. Sundays), Feast Days, and special services such as Evensong and Lessons & Carols, from the beginning of September to Trinity Sunday in June. The choir’s repertoire is extremely wide-ranging, from the earliest known Renaissance music, through the Baroque/Classical/Romantic eras, to the most compelling and beautiful classical music being written today. Psalm singing in either plainsong (Gregorian) or 19th century Anglican chant; as well as choral motets by Byrd, Gibbons, Palestrina, Tallis, and Victoria to Modern composers like Brahms, Bruckner, Duruflé, Stanford, and Willan.

We are always eager and interested in auditioning new volunteer singers for the Parish Choir. You need not be a member of the parish to belong to the choir and those of any faith are invited to audition.

We require the following:

  1. A reasonable singing voice.
  2. Ability to sight read a moderately difficult Renaissance motet.
  3. Ability to commit to regular rehearsals on Thursdays, 5:30–7:30 p.m., and Sundays from 9:45 a.m. with Choral Eucharist at 11 a.m., plus additional rehearsals and services as needed.

If you are interested in auditioning for the choir, please contact organist and choirmaster Jonathan Poe to set up an appointment.

The Novice Choir

The Novice Choir is a training choir for children in Kindergarten (possibly pre-K) and first grade, and all other new choristers. Each Chorister will be introduced to the Royal School of Church Music curriculum (RSCM) where they will learn basic musicianship and aural training skills. In addition, this choir will learn various elements and symbols of the church, creeds, prayers, as well as social etiquette and communication skills. Novice Choristers are presented in the annual Whiting Ceremony at the conclusion of the choir year, during which time they receive their cottas as a sign of their personal achievement and commitment to the music ministry of Christ Church. The Novice choir rehearses every Wednesday from 5:00–5:25 pm.

Christ Church Choristers

The Christ Church Choristers consists of children who are returning choristers from the previous season and for any child currently ages 7 and up. Our curriculum follows the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) affiliated program Voice for Life. RSCM’s Voice for Life exists to support and promote singing in churches, schools and other communities. Voice for Life provides a range of training materials, repertoire, courses and training choirs that enables us to encourage and develop a singing culture in our community. I encourage you to visit RSCM America to learn more. Choristers will regularly present musical offerings within our Sunday Choral Eucharist throughout the year. The Christ Church Choristers rehearse every Wednesday from 5:30–6:45 pm.
